If This Was Your First Date With Your Spouse, Would They Want a Second?

I am a huge believer in the power of a good date night with your spouse. Life moves so quickly especially once you have a kid. Life becomes sort of robotic in the sense of work, take care of the baby, pay bills, cook dinner, and try to get an actual conversation in with each other in the middle of all the chaos.

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Date your spouse”

What does that mean? It means just what what you’re reading…go on a date with your spouse.

But wait…think about what happens when you go on a date. Are you actually “dating” your spouse?

If the last date night you had with your spouse was the very first, would they want a second?

Are you putting the effort into date night the way you did so many years ago when the two of you first met?

What I mean is, what is happening on date night with your spouse? Ladies, are you getting dolled up for the occasion or are you just throwing on jeans and a t-shirt with a face full of yesterdays makeup? Are you talking about yourself too much? Are you reaching over to hold his hand or giving him quick kisses on the way from the restaurant to the car?

And Men, are you pulling her chair out for her? Putting your arm around her while the local outdoor band plays a sweet song? Are you complimenting her? Are you trying to impress her the way you did so many years ago?

Think about it, think about the last date you went on with your spouse and think about the way you behaved…would your spouse call you again for a second date? I’m serious, really think about that! Would you go back to your friends and talk about what a great time you two had? Or would you tell of the disaster date you had where the guy was on his phone the entire time and barely had conversation with you?

Life gets hectic. With work, kids, and a possible paycheck to paycheck budget date nights become far and few between. So are you taking advantage of the little bit of time you and your spouse have together, just the two of you?

I’m just saying if you are going to do a date night…do the damn thing.

Ladies, buy a new dress and take the time to get dolled up. Hold his hand. Ask him about himself. Men, pull her chair out for her. Put your arm around her. Tell her she looks pretty.

Think back to the first date the two of you went on with each other…date night looks pretty different these days doesn’t it? Back then, you definitely wouldn’t go hit the town and spend the evening on your phone scrolling instagram across the table from each other. Think you know everything there is to know about your spouse? I guarantee you there is more. So spend the night finding it all out. Flirt with each other. Impress each other.

I guess all I am saying is, don’t lose the spark. When the two of you have date night make sure you’ll be getting a call back for a second date. Light that fire each and every time. Don’t just go on a date with your spouse…actually date your spouse, date them hard.

It is so important. My husband and I make an effort every date night to follow this notion and it makes life so much fun.
